I have a little over 1 month left until the 80% deadline of August 1st. And that’s making me kinda anxious.
It gave me the extra push to get the undergarment corset done.
I’m hoping this starts the momentum of corset > harness > connecting things to the harness like the cape and pauldrons > etc.
Just keep building onto each other.
ITS SO PRETTY. No one will see it during cosplay but I’ll still wear it out in public.
⭐ This Week’s Focus
Challenge Item - Corset
Other - Redoing decor foam
🧵 Shit I Did
- I made the corset that I will wear underneath everything.
- Cut out the iron-on decorative gold pieces for the dress.
- Cut out the 2mm foam detailing for other costume parts like the cape and side panels.
- Thought about how to move forward with the Blade and decided I will add a screw at the white triangle to hold the halves in place.
- My Blizzard meetup at PAX West was accepted!
🔮 Thoughts for Future Work
- After fucking up the Blade, I needed a break away from it. It is acceptable to put something aside and work on something different. Take a break.
- NGL, the corset looks pretty good and is probably my best one yet.
- I might be overengineering the Blade but with my new plan, I am confident it won’t fall apart.
📋 TODO — Next Week
- Order magnetic pogo connectors for the blade.
- Reprint blade half with holes for rods, magnets, and connectors.
- Prime, paint, seal foam for cape.
- Fix the dress. It is too tight at the hips (sew a new skirt) and the zipper gets caught (lining too close).
📸 Photo Dump
This time, I tried to follow the instructions when making the corset. This is the lining (with interfacing to make it easier) and I am sewing one panel at a time.
Making bias tape is the bane of my existence so I just made it the width of my ruler. Worked out fine.
Now I can use the laser cutter at the makerspace and cut and engrave to my heart’s content.
There will be a vertical screw through the white triangle to connect the halves. I will make a cap to hide the screw.
It is oh so fun and satisfying going out in these contacts. If I can make someone say “Holy shit”, I’ve done my job.
I attended a PNW cosplayers meetup at Round 1 and made new friends and saw some familiar faces.
